Black Cake

ingredients one cup alveolate dates one cup dried figs one 1/4 cups port one 1/4 cups white rum, like Appleton
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1/2 cup brandied cherries with their liquid (or substitute maraschino cherries)
1/2 cup currants
1/2 cup candied orange rind
1/2 cup dried prunes
1/2 cup dark raisins
1/2 cup golden raisins
one 1/2 cups (3 sticks) unseasoned butter, and a lot of for greasing cake pans two cups flour, sifted two cups refined sugar one teaspoon leavening
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Pinch of salt
 5 eggs

Directions

Add the dates, figs, one cup of the port, one cup of the rum, the almonds, brandied cherries with their liquid, currants, candied peel, prunes and dark and golden raisins to a kitchen appliance. method this mixture till the edible fruit is softened into smaller chunks. enable it to soak within the rum for a minimum of two hours half-hour, however ideally for two to three days.

Preheat the kitchen appliance to 350 degrees F. Grease two cake pans and line them with brown or paper.

In a stand mixer, mix the butter, flour, refined sugar, leavening, allspice, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, salt and eggs. Slowly add the rum-soaked fruit to the mixer somewhat at a time and blend to mix all of the ingredients.

Divide the cake batter between the ready cake pans. Bake the cakes in an exceedingly water tub by filling an oversized preparation pan halfway up with water so setting the cake pans within. Bake for one hour half-hour.

Sprinkle the remaining port and rum on high of the cakes and allow them to cool. These cakes can last for days keep in parchment paper and wrap and for weeks once frozen.
