Autumn is sometimes regarded as pumpkin season because you will find yummy and fresh pumpkins everywhere. Although canned pumpkins are available all around the year but if you have the option, you should substitute the canned ones with fresh pumpkins. If you want to use pumpkin puree in any of your recipes, simply de-seed and slice it and roast it in the oven over medium heat for about thirty minutes. When it cools down, just mash it or blend it making sure all the skin is removed properly. Now this puree can be used in many of your recipes.

Another way of making puree is to peel, de-seed and then cut the pumpkin into big chunks and put them in a pan of boiling water. Let it cook until the pumpkin cubes become tender, now drain the water and mash or blend to make a puree out of it.

You can make soup using pumpkins and it tastes just superb. You may also add chicken or vegetable stock in the soup. Moreover it could be made a but chunkier by adding certain vegetables like carrots, onions, leeks, cabbage and many more. Adding spices may enhance its flavor to a great degree.

Pumpkins can also be used to make cakes and they taste delicious and you will never get over them no matter how much you eat them. You would need to add some spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger or cloves in order to give the cake a bit more taste because pumpkin itself might taste very mild.

Halloween is the season when pumpkins are found in abundance because more and more people buy them in order to carve shapes out of them. During that period you may find plenty of recipes on the internet. Whether you like it to be sweet or savory, there are loads of recipes available on the internet.

Pies and pancakes are also made out of pumpkins very commonly. Because most of these recipes would require pureed form of it so its best to make good amount of puree and then freeze it or put it in the fridge. It can be stored in the freezer for up to six weeks and in the fridge for about two weeks.

Its always healthy to use fresh ingredients in your cooking because there is no substitute for them. Only use jarred or tinned vegetables of this sort when they are not readily available in the market. The reason why tinned or jarred is not that brilliant in terms of taste is because such variety undergoes certain processes in order to increase their shelf life and it impacts their taste to a great extent.
