Organic Dog Treat Recipes For Your Pet

By Edna Booker

Sometimes it's nice to make your own dog snacks. There are an abundance of organic dog treat recipes for you to choose from. The most important thing to keep in mind when you cook for a dog is that you never use foods that can harm them. There foods that are commonly eaten by humans can be toxic and fatal for dogs. If you're unsure of an ingredient, check before you use it in a recipe. Chocolate, raisins, and onions are just a few of the foods that dogs cannot eat. Also be sure to choose all natural, organic ingredients when you shop.

Dogs don't need a lot of grains in their diet. Choose a whole grain flour instead of white flour. Add an egg, some applesauce, and a little peanut butter to a bowl. Mix it well. You then drop scoops onto a cookie tray and bake them for around 15 minutes. You're also able make these into no bake cookies by leaving them on waxed paper to set up. Just leave out the egg if you're going to do this.

If you're not in the mood to do a lot of shopping, mixing, and measuring, a super easy treat for your four legged friend uses baby food and chicken. Use a few jars of food, beef and veggies are perfect. Pour them in a bowl, add some cooked chicken and drop them or roll them into snack sized treats. This is a perfect use for leftover chicken. Make sure your baby food is organic.

For some extra fun get a bone shaped cookie cutter. Mix up dough using whole wheat flour, slow cooking oats, an egg, and peanut butter. Mix it up, roll it out and cut out bone shaped cookies. They're adorable. They also make a nice take along gift when you visit a friend with pets.

Tossing a chicken in a pot with some water is the easiest way to prepare chicken. Do this with any cut of chicken, once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the bone, and shred it. Save the broth. Pour some broth into a bowl, add some of the shredded chicken and a bit of flour. Roll this mixture into balls. Store them in the refrigerator and hand them out to your pet as special snacks.

Here is another treat that can be made with boiled chicken. Shred chicken, put it in a bowl with some of the broth. Add flour, a tablespoon of cinnamon, and a small amount of oil. Mix everything well and drop spoonfuls onto a cookie sheet. Bake these for 15-20 minutes.

During hot weather your pet might like a cold treat, and you can make sure that he or she gets one. Melt some peanut butter in a saucepan. Be sure to use low heat. Add some plain yogurt to the peanut butter and mix it well. Drop spoonfuls of this mixture onto a wax paper lined cookie sheet. Put the pan in the freezer until the snacks are frozen. Store them in a zippered freezer bag inside the freezer.

You'll know just what your pooch is eating when you make it yourself. You can also save money.
